My son was given this set for Christmas and we found it great! There is an instruction booklet with very detailed descriptions how to build models. The constructed toys are sturdy and innovative. My 3.5 year old cannot build alone, so it is fun for both of us to build together, which I find very comforting pastime. The orange box that the set comes in is a toy by itself; he likes to feel like a handyman carrying the box and closing-opening it numerous times.

Meccano Mechanical Box
Bought for Grandson's seventh birthday. The kit is ideal as an early introduction to how things work mechanically. Extremely useful as a tutor for following instructions.
For the first few attempts at making models from the instructions, it requires adult help, but there is plenty of opportunity for the child to 'invent' others from the pieces included.
The kit appears to be fairly robust, but it is early days yet to be sure about this.
All in all, good value!

My 5year old grandson was pleased with this toy and quickly started to assemble one of the models. He was very disappointed, though, to see that only a few of the models shown on the box had instructions. Makes me wonder if Meccano understands the market they are selling this to!
